As a tribute to my delightful friend Lily, age four, I will be taking pictures of this colorful paper little girl in various spots along my travels. Our first idea was to bring along a cardboard cut-out of the storybook character Flat Stanley, a little boy who is flattened by a falling bulletin board. Stanley's flattening turns out to be most fortunate when he discovers he can travel by mail anywhere in the world! For more than forty years, readers have taken a paper Flat Stanley on journeys and photographed him at all corners of the earth (just check Google images!). Lily and I decided that it would be better for us to create a Flat Lily to accompany me on my journey. So, the real Lily will be occasionally checking in here to see all the places that Flat Lily has visited and all the sights she has seen. We have a feeling she may see a penguin or two, and I'm sure she will pop up in some not-so-obvious ways in the photos on this blog. So, keep your eyes peeled for Flat Lily along the way in New Zealand and Australia!
